We’ve all seen Netflix’s ‘The Last Dance’, a docuseries that revolutionized the platform because everybody wanted to get that behind-the-scenes feel during that golden era for the Chicago Bulls. In that series, there are a lot of claims that are currently being debunked by ‘Jordan Rules’ author Sam Smith. This book deals with the other side of Michael Jordan’s career. Smith was one of the few authors who followed MJ throughout his entire career, he has privileged information about him that nobody else has. As such, he recently appeared in public to claim Jordan lied multiple times in the 10-part docuseries produced by Netflix.

During a recent interview promoting the book, Sam Smith spoke to 95.7 The Game show to make his revelations. Saying: “There were several things in the documentary that I saw, I would know that he made up or he lied about. They weren’t major things but it was like when a T.V. movie comes on and they say this is based on a true story. That’s what that was. It was based on a true story. There were all the outlines of what happened. But a lot of the detail like the pizza thing, the poison, that was complete nonsense. There were a couple of other things like that that I won’t go into. They weren’t major but the thing at the end was a complete blatant lie.”

Perhaps one of Sam Smith’s most shocking claims was that Jordan didn’t really want to retire in 1999 after winning the second three-peat with the Chicago Bulls. At the end of the popular docuseries, Jordan claims that everybody on the team wanted to return to fight for a seventh title. However, Sam Smith claims this: “To come back in ’98 and do what he did and basically walk away when he didn’t have to, and then to pretend that he was the one that wanted to play and they forced him out? Whoever forces Michael Jordan out to do anything? Anyway, such a blatant lie, but hey, that’s part of the mystique of Michael Jordan.”
