Last Thursday evening, Vice President Kamala Harris delivered her first unscripted comment, to which many have labeled the meandering and confusing statement an “unmitigated word salad.”  In her statement, she clearly attempts to convey that Biden is a diplomatic president with strong character, but expresses that in a very roundabout way.

Over the past few years, Harris has received substantial criticism for speaking in a “word salad” manner.  While the vice presidency is mostly a ceremonial job, her ability to communicate effectively has come under enhanced scrutiny given the prospect of her representing the United States as the commander-in-chief both domestically and abroad.

“This is just an extraordinary testament to the importance of having a president who understands the power of diplomacy and understands the strength that rests in understanding the significance of diplomacy,” Harris told reporters while standing next to President Joe Biden.  The Daily Caller uploaded the clip to X with the caption, “Kamala’s First Unscripted Comment Since Becoming Nominee Is Unmitigated Word Salad.”  The video generated a variety of different responses from users on the social media platform.

One user claimed this was the first time Harris spoke in an unscripted engagement with the media, suggesting that even Joe Biden thought it was appalling.  “This is just criminally unserious word salad. This is the 1st time she’s said anything publicly that wasn’t read off a teleprompter or a notebook. ZERO interviews, ZERO statements that weren’t prepared by someone else. Even Joe looks disgusted at WORD SALAD KAMALA,” the user wrote.

Another user called out the media for allegedly promoting Harris amid the word salad speech.  They opined that their moral crusade of defending “democracy” would not be accomplished by supporting Harris.  “The press is completely compromised and beyond repair. Useful idiots who believe they’re protecting “democracy” while wielding the weapon that destroys it. Poetic irony,” they commented.

What will Vice President Kamala Harris' strategy be as she runs for president?

The American Tribune recently reported on comments from Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary who questioned Harris’ record, asking, “What has she actually done?” He added that eventually, Harris will have to start addressing real issues the country is facing and the “happy talk” will come to an end. As the election approaches, Harris will have to speak to the unpopular record of the Biden-Harris administration.

“In the next two weeks, the happy talk is going to have to stop because someone’s going to sit her down and say, ‘let’s talk inflation, let’s talk border, let’s talk policy on energy. Let’s talk policy on foreign affairs,’” O’Leary said.  He continued, “If she wants to win, she’s got to go to the center. But she’s got to have some ideas on how to run the country. You might hate Trump, but he has this track record of policy. You might hate him. I get it. But you’ve got to do something.”

Mr. Wonderful then called out Harris’ concerning, 92 percent staff turnover rate in her vice presidential office, pointing out how this could imply serious leadership problems.  O’Leary continued, “That’s an extraordinary number. You’re wiping out your entire staff. Obviously, a problem there, but this narrative going on with Kamala Harris now is very interesting.”
