Ilona Maher’s dance partner, Alan Bersten, reacted to the Olympian’s freestyle performance during the finale of Dancing With the Stars. He expressed his admiration for Maher and praised her versatility as she showcased steady improvements throughout the season of the dance reality show.
Maher marched onto Dancing With the Stars right after winning the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. The American revealed how she did not have an experience of performing on such a major stage but still decided to go out of her comfort zone and ultimately take up the challenge.
The 28-year-old partnered with Alan Bersten and put forward great performances showcasing a variety of dance forms throughout her appearance in Dancing With the Stars. After incredible performances throughout the season, they qualified for the finals of the dance reality show and ultimately finished second, missing out on the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy by a small margin.
She earned great praise from fans and judges for her freestyle performance in the grand finale of Dancing with the Stars. The judges were so impressed by her performance that Maher and Bersten showered her with three perfect tens, taking their freestyle score to 30. After finishing second in the finale and missing out on the DWTS trophy by a whisker, Alan Bersten penned a heartfelt note for Ilona Maher and expressed his gratitude for being able to partner with her for the dance reality show. The two were very active on social media and often shared behind the scenes of their dance practice sessions as well as fun banter with fans.
Throughout the season, their bond strengthened a lot and Bersten expressed how Maher had become a ‘friend for life’.
“I am so incredibly thankful for this season! @ilonamaher you are truly remarkable! I am so lucky to have been partnered with you!! You’re my friend for life! @dancingwiththestars is the best show on TV and it’s a family I’m so lucky to be a part of! I hope everyone has a beautiful Thanksgiving,” he wrote.
