Stephen Curry made his Olympic debut at the Paris Games and did not disappoint. After missing the previous Olympics to focus on his NBA career with the Golden State Warriors, Curry finally stepped onto the international stage and secured a gold medal in his first appearance. His performance was crucial in Team USA’s 98-87 victory over host country France in the finals.
The Warriors star is determined to capitalize on this iconic moment and decided to trademark the phrase “Nuit, Nuit.” According to trademark attorney Josh Gerben, founder of Gerben IP, Curry’s company, SC30, quickly moved to secure the rights to the phrase in both Europe and the United States.
The Warriors star didn’t waste any time in embracing his new trademark. Shortly after the Olympics, he was seen wearing a “Nuit, Nuit” hoodie, designed by art director and designer Mike Fogg. Fogg explained that the hoodie was part of a larger plan that started back in June.
When Did Stephen Curry’s Team File Trademark Application?
Darren Rovell of Cllct noted that the trademark application was filed in Europe on August 14. It was just days after the Paris Olympics concluded. Curry and his team wasted no time filing the trademark in the United States on August 19.
“Steph Curry’s corporation, SC30, has filed to trademark the phrase “Nuit. Nuit,” which he and his team cleverly rolled out after Curry helped Team USA down France in the men’s basketball gold medal game during the Paris Olympics earlier this month. Curry filed to trademark the phrase in Europe on Aug. 14 and in the United States on Aug. 19,” Rovell reported.
The excitement surrounding Curry is likely due to the fact that the Paris Olympics marked not just his first but possibly his last Olympic appearance. This adds even more significance to his iconic celebration gold medal win.
