After parting ways with franchise icon Klay Thompson and NBA legend Chris Paul ahead of the 2024-25 season, the Golden State Warriors kept their key player, Stephen Curry, at home. The Warriors’ star guard has reportedly agreed to extend his contract with the franchise until the 2026-27 season, and NBA fans have flooded social media with hilarious reactions.

In August 2021, the four-time NBA champion signed a $215 million contract extension with the Warriors to keep him through the 2025-26 season. According to NBA analyst Adrian Wojnarowski, Curry’s agent Jeff Austin stated that the 2022 Finals MVP has agreed to a one-year, $62.6 million extension.

Fans swamped the comment section with mixed reactions as the analyst broke the news on his X handle. A fan jokingly compared Lakers legend Magic Johnson’s entire career earnings to Curry’s contract.

Apart from these, many fans were left disappointed, as it likely ended the possibility of a legendary NBA duo of Stephen Curry and LeBron James.

Why Did The Warriors Offer A One-Year Extension To Stephen Curry?

Stephen Curry is already the highest earner in the NBA ahead of the 2024-25 season. His agent claimed that one of the greatest shooters in the NBA would sign the contract on Thursday. After signing his extension with the Warriors, Curry will receive $178 million in three years.

Many wondered why the franchise offered Curry a one-year contract extension, even though he helped them win four of their seven championships. This is due to the NBA’s over-38 rule. The rule prevents teams from offering four or more years to players aged 38 or who will turn 38 during the contract. This helps NBA teams avoid exploiting the league’s salary cap rules. Curry will turn 38 in March 2027. However, his contract is allowed as the regular season will almost be over in March.

After spending 13 years at the San Francisco-based franchise, Klay Thompson joined the Dallas Mavericks in offseason trade. The Warriors also waived Chris Paul, who signed with the San Antonio Spurs, in free agency. The Warriors will rely on their youngsters, including Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski.

In one video, Jordan and Prieto can be seen dancing at a table at what seems to be a nightclub. Like in his playing days, the six-time champion smokes a cigar on his night out. The pair eventually lose themselves in the intensity of the occasion and start dancing. Michael Jordan and his spouse traveled to Italy in elegance, as anticipated. The Chicago Bulls icon is currently on a superyacht.

Several memorable moments occurred during the evening, such as the amusing present from the nightclub: a tambourine with their faces from the same night’s picture. Prieto held the unique gift up for Jordan to see, and it caused grins and laughter.

Jordan also interacted with people on their Capri excursion, shaking hands, striking pictures at their table, and dancing with them. His approachable manner and eagerness to interact with people emphasized his genuine nature even more.
