Stetson Bennett put in the work, and it paid off for him.
Rams head coach has named Bennett as the backup to Matthew Stafford over the first two games of the season after the team waived QB Dresser Winn.
As for Jimmy Garoppolo, he has to start the season on a two-game suspension.
Stetson Bennett didn’t participate in Saturday’s game but has solidified his position in the eyes of the coaching staff.
He has made an incredible turn since his issues from the 2023 season, when he basically disappeared from the team.
Bennett struggled with turnovers in his first game of this preseason but showed what he had in the tank the following week. Sean McVay talked about how well he played in joint practices despite limited opportunities, per USA Today.
The bigger question going forward is whether Stetson Bennett will stick around past Week 2 once Garoppolo returns from suspension.
Stetson Bennett Shows Enough In First Two Preseason Games To Make The Team
Stetson Bennett played every snap in the Rams’ first two preseason games but did not play in the final one, as Dresser Winn suited up against the Texans on Saturday.
Unless Winn could do something spectacular, the decision had already been made that Bennett had the backup spot to himself, at least for the first two weeks.
Bennett struggled in his two preseason starts, throwing five interceptions and only two touchdown passes. However, the talent is there, and the coaching staff thought he was the better option.
He might have a chance to play in a game as the Rams play back-to-back road games to open the season, first against the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football and then the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2.

Sha’Carri Richardson made sure to remind people that she is still that girl with her performance in the women’s 4×100-meter relay.
Team USA’s women’s relay team will compete in the 4×100-meter final all because Richardson showed why she was made for the big stage.
Sha’Carri Richardson bailed the women out from a near collapse on Thursday in the Olympic 4×100 relay. She overcame a German runner in the anchor leg to help the Americans win their heat and advance to the gold-medal race.
Amid that run, Richardson could be seen staring at Rebekka Haase as she quickly passed her up on the track.
