Taylor Swift is undoubtedly one of the biggest popstars in the world, and that’s partly due to Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, but despite its success, I’m missing one of Swift’s previous concert films. The 2023 movie chronicles Swift’s record-breaking world stadium tour that kicked off in March 2023 in Arizona and will conclude in December 2024 in Vancouver. The Eras Tour is the highest-grossing concert tour ever, having earned more than $1 billion. So, it’s not shocking that Swift hired a camera crew to film her Los Angeles shows and released the footage for the world to experience.
A couple of months following its theatrical run, Swift’s 2023 concert film made its streaming debut on Disney+ under a different name — Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version). So, now Swift’s fans (including myself) can easily access the Eras Tour without having to painstakingly track down concert tickets and pay a ridiculous price for them. While being able to watch Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour on Disney+ is exciting, I can’t help but wish another one of the singer-songwriter’s movies would return to the world of streaming soon.
Sadly, Taylor Swift: The Reputation Stadium Tour is nowhere to be found on streaming or VOD. Fans can’t even rent or buy Swift’s 2018 concert film. The Reputation Stadium Tour preceded the Eras Tour and while it was big at the time, it didn’t come close to Swift’s current success. Nevertheless, it’s Swift’s most recent tour centered around one album, and the severely underrated Reputation is full of ideal songs to perform in a stadium. Having attended a show myself, the Reputation era of Swift’s Eras Tour is, by far, the most fun to sing along and dance to in a crowded stadium.
Consequently, Taylor Swift: The Reputation Tour, which premiered exclusively on Netflix on December 31, 2018, was Swift’s best concert movie before Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour came along. However, for one reason or another, Taylor Swift: The Reputation Tour was removed from Netflix in January 2024. Netflix didn’t give a reason behind the film’s removal from its library, and some speculate that it was related to Swift not owning Reputation. It’s only one of the two albums that Swift hasn’t made a “Taylor’s Version” for. Whatever the case, I’m devastated that Taylor Swift: The Reputation Tour has essentially disappeared.
It’s hard to compare Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour to Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour given the circumstances. The former mostly contains songs from one album, while the latter features songs from Swift’s first 10 albums. The only era missing is The Tortured Poets Department, but that is because Swift’s eleventh studio album was released in April 2024, and she didn’t add it to the Eras Tour until May 2024. So, it would be difficult for any of the singer-songwriter’s concert films to live up to Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’s reputation (pun intended).
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour still doesn’t take away from the greatness of Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour. As mentioned above, Reputation contains several songs that will entice anyone to get up and start dancing. The 2018 concert film is just an all-around good time and a celebration of one of Swift’s most underrated albums. Plus, it’s nostalgic to look back on Swift’s Reputation era by watching Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour, and that is no longer an option for fans. Hopefully, that sad truth will change, and the movie will return to streaming soon.
The perfect time for Taylor Swift to re-release Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour is (fingers crossed) just around the corner. Swift has two more albums to re-record before she owns her entire catalog again, or, at least her version of them. The artist’s debut album, Taylor Swift, and Reputation are the only two remaining, and it’s essentially confirmed (via Swift’s Easter eggs) that Reputation (Taylor’s Version) is coming next. So when Swift announces Reputation (Taylor’s Version), she should promote it by making her 2018 concert film available on streaming again, alongside Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.
