With the 2024 regular season just a month away, the Buffalo Bills revealed a series of roster changes, seemingly due to injuries. While the team placed Shane Buechele on the injury reserve, the most surprising part came when wide receiver Chase Claypool’s name was also mentioned on it.

After suffering a toe injury on July 28, Claypool’s recovery hasn’t been smooth, causing him to miss all of the training camp. At first, his injury wasn’t described as serious and was said to have “day-to-day” status. The receiver was even present at the preseason game against the Chicago Bears but was absent from the team’s practice on Monday.

Earlier when head coach Sean McDermott was asked about the injury of the newly-signed receiver, he claimed that Claypool is working really hard to get back out on the field.

It's just hard to evaluate when the players aren't out there, whether it's Chase or anybody. And I know he's fighting like crazy to get back, and we're anxious to have him back.

After joining the Bills this offseason, Claypool hadn’t gotten a chance to showcase his ability for them. This led to possible anticipation that the Bills might release him with an injury settlement from the IR before he could even step on the field.

Fan reactions to Chase Claypool placed on injury reserve

Spotting Claypool’s name on the Bills’ injury reserve has come as a shock to everyone. Because his injury was not listed as serious when he sustained it even though he was sidelined for the entire training camp. Fans have been speculating a downfall of Claypool from thereon.

One fan wrote, “The downfall of Chase Claypool needs to be studied,” while another wrote, “Damn, that stinks. Would hope he would turn it around in Buffalo.”

Here are some of the fan reactions:

Some netizens claimed it is good news for the Bills fans but others urged Claypool to return to the Bears. If he hit the open market, the Bills would be his third team to pass by in the last two years, given he was traded to the Miami Dolphins last year in October by the Bears.
