Baltimore Ravens Star Blasts Kansas City Chiefs’ Medical Staff For “Super Unprofessional” Treatment During Week 1 Game

Baltimore Ravens star linebacker Kyle Van Noy blasted the Kansas City Chiefs medical team for what he’s calling “super unprofessional” treatment for an eye injury he suffered in the NFL Kickoff Game at Arrowhead Stadium last week.

Kyle Van Noy suffered an orbital bone fracture in the third quarter of the season opener, a 27-20 Kansas City victory. And the veteran linebacker was far from pleased with the treatment he got from Kansas City’s medical team.

Speaking on the latest edition of the “McCoy and Van Noy” podcast that he co-hosts with former NFL star defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, Van Noy stated that he waited “an entire quarter” for the Chiefs to send over an ophthalmologist to examine his eye injury.

Van Noy called his injury “moderate but serious” since it was eye-related, and he was baffled by the lack of “urgency” on the Chiefs’ end to get in a specialist:

“I was disappointed in the way the training staff of the Chiefs handled the situation. When things like that hurt, you get hurt, especially something that could be serious like mine was, you’re supposed to rely on the team’s training staff or their doctors, and I was supposed to see an ophthalmologist, which is somebody who checks out eye performance, eye surgery, and they took an entire quarter to get down to talk to me in the locker room, which, to me, is unacceptable, because then you start thinking, What if I was trying to go back in the game?

What if I was really, really hurt? Mine happened to be moderate but it still was serious because it’s the eye, and your expectation of someone to be down there as the training staff asks them to be down there, would have had some more urgency…

I just feel like, as a player, people have that expectation of you being professional, handling business And in a time of need, I wanted that from them, and I felt like I didn’t get it.”

Kyle Van Noy had one tackle in the Ravens’ seven-point defeat. The two-time Super Bowl champion is in his second season with the AFC North club following a one-year stint with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Van Noy previously played for the Detroit Lions (2014 to 2016), New England Patriots (2016 to 2019 and again in 2021) and Miami Dolphins (2020). He won Super Bowl championships with the Patriots in the 2016 and 2018 seasons.

Kyle Van Noy Adds More Fuel To Ravens-Chiefs Rivalry

The Ravens and Chiefs rivalry has emerged as one of the best in football, thanks entirely to the rises of two-time MVPs Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes. There’s no love lost between the two sides, especially after last year’s AFC Championship Game.

From the Justin Tucker warmup controversy in the AFC title game to Roquan Smith calling out Peyton Hendershot last week to Van Noy’s rant on Kansas City’s medical staff, it’s clear that these two teams aren’t going to meet for beers any time soon.
