For some weeks now, NBA rookie Bronny James has been a topic of discussion. Fans have been outraged since the Los Angeles Lakers chose the second-generation hooper with their second-round draft, claiming that clubs wouldn’t be interested in signing Bronny James if he weren’t LeBron James’ son.

According to Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, LeBron did nothing different from what any other father would do. This week, during an interview with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, Scott used the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys as proof that a parent watching out for their child is nothing new.

Jerry Jones owns the Cowboys and has elevated several children to executive positions. Furthermore, Scott noted that Jeanie Buss, the Los Angeles Lakers owner, rose to prominence because of her father’s team ownership.

Mayor said, “They gotta stop. That man [LeBron James] did what ANY father would do for their son. We’re talking about the 55th pick in the draft, right? We ain’t talking about a first round pick for crying out loud. Let that man and his son do what they do and it’s going to put people in the seats for the Lakers.”

He added, “Jerry Jones and his whole family are the owners and the presidents and the vice presidents of the Dallas Cowboys and nobody says anything. We all love Jeanie Buss but, remember her dad owned the Lakers, right? We gotta stop.”

Bronny James Is Trying to Fit In With the Lakers Before the Start of the New Season

LeBron James’s relationship with Bronny could have helped him get more notoriety before the draft. However, Bronny clarified that the Lakers did not select him with their first-round choice. JJ Redick and Rob Pelinka expressed their belief that Bronny has the potential to develop into a potent three-and-d player after the draft.

Even if his USC stats weren’t impressive, his performance at the NBA Draft Combine sufficiently convinced the Lakers. Bronny James, for example, fired 19–25 in the shooting practice, good enough to place second among all participants.

The Lakers see him as a development project because he was a one-and-done player in college. In light of this, Bronny is anticipated to participate in the NBA Summer League and play throughout the preseason. Yet, it will take time for him to establish himself as a vital member of the Lakers’ rotation.

While all this is happening, Bronny James is getting ready for the NBA 2k25 Summer League, which will begin in Las Vegas later today. He has already participated in two of the Lakers’ three California Classic games.
