Many NFL players take great pride in the schools they spent their college football time at. Some players still have friendly rivalries with NFL teammates if they go to a rival college. That has shown to be no different with Patrick Mahomes and Texas Tech, where he spent three seasons before getting drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs.

His love for this former school runs so deep that on Aug. 22, it was announced that Mahomes and his wife would donate $5 million.

There isn’t a greater ambassador for Texas Tech Athletics than Patrick Mahomes,” Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire said in a press release. “He is arguably the best brand in sports, not only for his success on the field but for what he and his family do off it. Since my hiring here at Texas Tech, it’s been evident to me just how much Patrick truly loves this university and football program, and this gift further emphasizes that. On behalf of our entire program, we can’t thank Patrick and Brittany enough for the impact they are making on our student-athletes and the future of Texas Tech Football.”

Texas Tech originally planned to raise $100 million in donations for the south end zone and Womble Football Center project, but the Mahomes family increased the total to $115 million.

Patrick Mahomes In Pursuit Of Seventh Straight Pro Bowl

Since becoming the full-time starter for the Chiefs in 2018, Mahomes has been on a historic run. In fact, he has been named to the Pro Bowl every year as a starter, making it six straight seasons.

Even though the Pro Bowl has been a bit watered down, it’s still an amazing achievement, and Mahomes could be nominated for the seventh straight year at just 28 years old. It’s certainly not something that just anybody in the NFL has accomplished.
