But last night, Taylor bagged an incredible ten nominations for this year which, when she undoubtedly scoops the majority, means she will overtake Beyonce to become the most celebrated artist in VMAs history.
Taylor has been nominated for the top gongs in the ceremony, including Artist of the Year, Video of the Year and Song of the Year for her hit single Fortnight with Post Malone.
The Bad Blood singer also has nominations for Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Collaboration, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects and Best Art Direction.
Arguably, Beyonce, who has one nod for Song of the Year for Texas Hold ’Em, has laid out the red carpet for Taylor to take her crown at the ceremony in New York on September 10.
She failed to put out official music videos for any of the tracks on her 2022 album Renaissance, or this year’s Cowboy Carter, both of which went straight to No1.
Taylor went all out with the offerings from her latest No1 record, The Tortured Poet’s Department.
Dua Lipa is flying the flag for Britain with three nominations, Best Pop, Best Choreography and Best Cinematography.
We are told MTV bosses are desperate to get Taylor to perform at the awards.
She will be on a break from touring.
A source said: “They are pulling out all the stops to not only get her at the show, but to also get her to perform.”
Taylor and Bey battled it out in February at the Grammy Awards for Album of the Year.
Taylor’s tenth album, Midnights, took the gong against Beyonce’s dance record, Renaissance.
The pair, who are close friends, are expected to once again be pitted against each other come next year’s Grammys.
Taylor’s 11th album, The Tortured Poets Department, is almost certain to receive a nod, as is Cowboy Carter.
We love a heavyweight music bout, and the VMAs is gearing up to be a history-making night.
