The infamous King of the Pirates, Gol D. Roger, is among the most influential figures in the world of One Piece. While many outlaws admire him for his unique achievements, the fierce gentleman had few individuals who would consider him a friend. When the time for his demise at the hands of the World Government finally came, not many were willing to risk their lives to save him.
Luffy, who has often been compared to Roger in both his goals and personality, may have a major advantage over the former King of the Pirates.
One of the Straw Hat Captain’s least talked about skills is his ability to befriend almost anyone he meets. This unique trait may be what helps Luffy survive his almost inevitable confrontation against the Marines.

One Piece: 10 Friendships Nobody Saw Coming
One Piece is an anime with many bonds of friendship between characters, but what characters seemed like they should be more rivals than friends?
Luffy Has Dozens of Friends All Around the World
These Loyal Allies are Willing To Die To Protect the Young Pirate
During chapter 561 of the One Piece manga, the legendary swordsman Dracule Mihawk noted the ease with which Luffy can turn anyone who meets him into an ally. His charisma and natural charm are such that people are enticed to help the young man, no matter what the cost of doing so may be.
After witnessing this unusual power in effect during the Marineford War, Mihawk claimed it to be the most dangerous ability in the world. While stating that Luffy can turn anyone who he meets into a friend may be an exaggeration, this assertion is not far from the truth.
Throughout the series, the Straw hat Captain has acquired a vast number of allies, from princesses to former rivals, some of whom even joined his crew. Luffy’s natural charm, friendly disposition, and willingness to fight for those he appreciates make it hard for people to dislike him.
Even characters like Boa Hancock, infamous for hating all men in the world, have fallen victim to Luffy’s mysterious ability. The young man is one of the few people the Amazonian woman truly respects and cherishes. If needed, they would be willing to fight the most powerful opponents in the world to save Luffy.
For example, during chapter 578, Jinbe went as far as to receive an almost fatal attack from Admiral Akainu to prevent Luffy from dying. At that time, the former Warlord had no obligation to save the Straw Hat Captain, as he was not a member of Luffy’s crew yet. Despite this, Jinbe risked his life to give his future captain a chance to continue living.
The Fishman is far from the only character to exhibit this behavior, as characters like Ace, Shanks, and even Crocodile have put their lives on the line to make sure that Luffy is safe.
During a Major Battle, Luffy Will Never Be Alone
His Allies Would Prevent Him From Being Executed
Despite how amicable Roger was shown to be in life, most of his acquaintances were treated more as friendly rivals than friends. Luffy has never exhibited this behavior, as he has consistently referred to the people he has met during his journey as friends. This would be a major advantage for the young pirate during a battle against the World Government.
With an army of allies willing to give their lives for Luffy, the young man would not have to worry about being captured and executed like Roger was.
One Piece is a series that often reminds its fans of the importance of building healthy and lasting friendships with those around us. Luffy is the living embodiment of these ideals, being an amicable individual who holds no ill will towards strangers unless provoked.
Mihawk may be right about this being the young pirate’s most dangerous ability, as he could amass an army strong enough to help him achieve any goal he has in mind.
