The LA Lakers made a bold choice by appointing former NBA player JJ Redick as their new head coach after getting rid of Darvin Ham. Even though the former is inexperienced, it didn’t take him time to figure out the flaws the team had under Ham and boldly point them out.
Speaking to the ESPN panel, Redick said, “One thing we worked on was an early on system. One thing last year was they played random. When they played sets, they had a higher efficiency. We have LeBron/AD, but we are gonna play with more movement and cutting.”

Redick highlighted that previously, the team lacked defensive strategies, which he would focus on now. While stating that, he hinted at the former coach, who was often criticized for the Lakers’ defensive inability. Though Ham’s name was not mentioned, the indication was crystal clear.
Under Ham, the Lakers had a short run, which mostly failed. The team admitted to not knowing how they would approach, which led to a disaster. Now that Redick has taken over, a different side could be witnessed of the Purple and Gold. to
JJ Redick Shares His Strategy Around Lakers Star
Redick has taken up his job very seriously, ignoring the criticism that he received for his lack of experience. There’s a lot of pressure on him to succeed in the most successful Western team, and he seems to have an ace who can help in the process.
Boasting Anthony Davis’s offensive skill set, Redick said, “I want to use him as a hub—something he and I talked about.” The HC has a plan for the LA star.

Highlighting the center’s abilities, the 39-year-old said, “Someone who can obviously attack one on one, can create mismatches, but also someone that can get assists off dribble handoffs, that can get assists out of cuts.”
“So, we’re going to attempt to use him a lot as a hub on the offensive end,” the Lakers coach further added.

For now, Redick hasn’t impressed with his tactics in the summer league. However, he is aware that once the upcoming season begins and the star players LeBron and AD join in, all eyes will be on him and the Lakers.
