Director Patty Jenkins confirms ‘Wonder Woman 3’ is no longer in development due to DC’s changing plans.

Patty Jenkins, who directed the two Wonder Woman movies in the DCEU, reveals one disappointing update for the fans who were thinking about the third installment in the film series. Meanwhile, she has confirmed that she’s back to working on Rogue Squadron now.

Patty Jenkins’ 2017 film starring Gal Gadot as the DC superhero Wonder Woman was a box office hit, prompting a sequel, which was released in 2020. However, the sequel could not perform as expected as the movie only managed to gross $166 million worldwide (per The Numbers) against a production budget of $200 million.

Jenkins is now shifting her focus to the starfighter-based film Rogue Squadron. But one thing is sure, Wonder Woman 3 is no longer taking flight.

Patty Jenkins Says Wonder Woman 3 is Dead

Patty Jenkins revealed a potential third installment is “over for the time being, easily forever” in a new interview. While talking about the movie, during an appearance on HBO Max’s Talking Pictures Podcast, the director said that the studio is currently “not interested in doing any Wonder Woman.”
It’s not an easy task with what’s going on with DC. James Gunn and Peter Safran have to follow their own heart into their own plans. I don’t know what they are planning on doing or why, so I have sympathy for what a big job it is, and they have to follow their heart and do what they’ve got planned.”

She became one of the most prominent female directors in Hollywood after directing both Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984.

Previously, it was reported that she herself walked away from the threequel, citing some creative differences. But she later clarified that the project had already been scrapped due to the changes within the DCU, and she could do nothing to save the film despite fans wanting to see it.

Patty Jenkins is Back to Working on Rogue Squadron

Though she has mentioned something negative about Wonder Woman 3, she also stated that now she’s busy writing a Rogue Squadron movie. She told the Talking Pictures Podcast,
When I left Star Wars to do Wonder Woman 3, and I started working on that, we talked about, ‘Well, maybe I’ll come back to Star Wars after Wonder Woman 3.’”

She said that the cancelation of Wonder Woman 3 allowed her to focus on Rogue Squadron, continuing:
We started a deal for that to happen. When Wonder Woman 3 then went away, Lucasfilm and I were like, ‘Oh, we’ve got to finish this deal.’ We finished the deal right as the strike was beginning, so I now owe a draft of Star Wars. So we will see what happens there. Who knows?
The director also revealed a personal aspiration to create a fighter pilot movie, saying, “It’s been a dream.”

Disney or Lucasfilm, however, from their side, have not confirmed any further updates about Rogue Squadron since its removal from the schedule in 2022.
