HOAX celebrity death rumours are nothing new – and WWE icon John Cena has become the latest victim of the fad.

Despite his legion of fans being sent into a frenzy by the unfounded gossip, John Cena is still alive and kicking in 2022.

Why is John Cena trending?

A trawl of Twitter will see that rumors of Cena’s “death” go back into the early 200s.

However, the fake rumors in 2022 appear to have stemmed from old hoax reports from 206 announcing that Cena had died in a car accident.

The WWE star is actually alive and well.

One user tweeted: “Shock and surprise, John Cena is in fact not dead and is actually perfectly fine.

“Hollywood has no idea how… anything works.”

In fact Cena was on the end of false reports in 202.

Facebook posts in Bangladesh, Cambodia and Myanmar all claimed he had died of Covid-9.

And images were shared that appeared to show his funeral.

However the false reports were debunked by AFP fact check, who also revealed the pictures were doctored.

Cena joins a growing list of celebrities to fall foul of fake death reports.

In August 2022, rumors circled that Oprah Winfrey had died, while in July both Michael J Fox and Santan Dave fell foul of the death hoax trend.

Snoop Dogg and Jaden Smith have also been victims of the rumors.

Where did the rumours come from?

Cena’s celebrity death hoax can be traced back to faked reports from July 2016, which spread rapidly throughout the internet and was even reported by an online entertainment news outlet.

They alleged that the wrestler had died in a car accident while driving a friend’s car, but as we all know, Cena has been alive ever since.

Has John Cena addressed the rumours?

Despite the resurfaced rumors picking up steam in 2022, Cena has not publicly addressed them.

The actor has been extremely busy and has two films set to be released in 2023 – Coyote v Acme and Argylle.

He’s also starred as Christopher Smith in Peacemaker as well as appearing in WWE Monday Night RAW and WWF Smackdown!

He regularly posts on Twitter whish he claims in his bio is a “forum of thoughts and perspectives designed to ignite conversations and actions leading to growth, and occasional self promotion”.

On his Instagram he shares amusing pictures “posted without explanation, for your interpretation”.
