WWE legend John Cena has revealed the reason he wore jean shorts to wrestle was to stop fans from “looking at my d***.”

The 42-year-old, who has also confessed to getting an “accidental boner” during a match, has been synonymous with the 90s fashion trend during his career.

John Cena has explained why he chose to wrestle in jean shorts during his time in WWE.
Despite his part-time status with WWE, the wrestler-turned-actor remains one of the biggest stars ever to compete inside the squared-circle.

His status as a future Hall of Famer is already assured after his Ric Flair record-matching 16 world titles wins which he forged in a now-iconic look of colourful t-shirts and jean shorts.

And during an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Cena explained both the origins and the legacy of his unique ring gear.

He said: “If you look at my other options, it’s just underwear. I wanted to do some sort of street-clothes because my persona was a tough wannabe rapper kid from the mean street of West Newbury.

“Tough to do that in your underwear.

“I chose denim because you don’t blow the crotch out of denim.

“I tried cargo pants, and in front of the world a few times … here I am trying to put my life on the line with the Superstars I’m having a match with, and everyone’s just looking at my d***. So denim’s a safe play.”
