Biden’s one-on-one, about 15-minute-long interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett is the gift that keeps on giving to opponents of President Biden, as parts of the interview were something of a trainwreck for the bumbling president. That was particularly true when he tried talking about economic issues and got fact-checked in real-time by Burnett.
That came when Burnett noted that American voters do not trust Biden as much as they trust Trump when it comes to matters regarding the economy, as shown by polling on the subject. Broaching the subject, she told President Biden, “It’s also true, Mr. President, that voters, by a wide margin, trust Trump more on the economy. They say that in polls.”
Continuing, Burnett pointed to aspects of economic life in America that have gotten noticeably and demonstrably worse under President Biden’s administration, even if not necessarily his fault, saying, “The cost of buying a home in the United States is double – if you look at what it was, the monthly costs before the pandemic.”
She then pointed to how, even as house prices ratchet up dramatically, real income, or income as adjusted for inflation, is down dramatically since Biden came into office, with economic growth falling short as well. She said, “Real income, when you account for inflation is actually down since you took office.” She continued, “Economic growth last week, far short of expectations.”
Then, giving yet another example of things going wrong and using that to ask how he will succeed at turning things around. “Consumer confidence, maybe no surprise, is near a two-year a low. With less than 6 months until Election Day, are you worried that you are running out of time to turn that around?” Burnett asked President Biden.
He responded with little of note, rattling off his usual list of tired claims of success. Then Burnett asked, “Why should people here believe that you will succeed at creating jobs where Trump failed?” Biden, for his part, snapped, ridiculously, that Trump “never succeeded” in creating jobs while president. Then, contrasting Trump with himself, Biden alleged, “I’ve never failed! I’ve created over 15 million jobs!”
That claim is, as even the Washington Post admitted, “misleading,” as many of those supposed job gains came from the reopening of the economy after the end of the Covid lockdowns, not from excellent Biden economic policy.
Watch Biden and Burnett here:
Biden also ridiculously claimed, during the interview, that inflation was “9 percent” when he came into office, a complete lie. He said, “No president has had the run we’ve had in terms of creating jobs and bringing down inflation. It was 9 percent when I came to office, 9 percent.” However, inflation was really about 1.4 percent, not 9 percent, when he came into office.
Collin Rugg, a conservative X personality, posted about the ridiculous comment on X, saying, “NEW: CNN gives zero pushback after President Biden claims inflation was at 9% when he got into office. Inflation was actually at 1.4% when Biden took office. Biden: “No President has had the run we’ve had in terms of creating jobs and bringing down inflation. It was 9% when I came to office, 9%.” CNN: *Crickets* Insane.”
