In less than two weeks, we will be indulging in another year of football from the NFL, which means that fans will get back to seeing nonstop news about Taylor Swift possibly attending games.
Before that happens, ESPN’s Holly Rowe had something to get off of her chest in regards to fans who complained all 2023 season long when she began a relationship with Travis Kelce and promptly took up a lot of air time with her presence.
In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly via her partnership with College Colors Day, Rowe made it a point to criticize fans for getting so overly upset about Taylor Swift’s constant presence at Kansas City Chiefs games last season.
Rowe called out the many fans as being ‘grumpy’ over the small amount of time that Swift was shown on television.
“It brought a lot of new fans to the sport,” Rowe, 58, said. “Merchandise sales went up, ratings went up. New fans are good for the sport and good for the game. Grumpy, old people who are like, ‘I can’t take a 10-second shot of her.’ Come on.”
It should be noted that Rowe was not a Swiftie until she started learning new things about her during the NFL season.
“I am a football person first,” Rowe noted. “I was learning about Taylor Swift by watching the NFL and NFL coverage. I was like, ‘Oh, I didn’t know this thing about her.’ I’m the football person who learns about Taylor Swift through football coverage. I thought it was great.”
As for the Chiefs, the team will open the regular season on September 5 against the Baltimore Ravens.
Rowe warned viewers to be prepared for even more Taylor Swift coverage when she attends games at Arrowhead Stadium or elsewhere.
“At ESPN, we always talk about wanting to develop fans’ rooting interest,” Rowe explained. “What is your rooting interest? If you turn on a game and you don’t really know anything about either team playing, but you can go, ‘Oh, she’s dating that guy? Wow.’ That might develop a rooting interest and make you tune in for a few seconds longer.”
Rowe continued, “I think it’s healthy. I think it’s cool. All fans are welcome. [Taylor’s] learning about football as she goes. She brought a lot of friends and family to those football games that maybe wouldn’t have come before. As a football person, I’m like, ‘The more, the merrier.’ Keep bringing ’em because we want to get as many women loving and involved in football as possible.”
Taylor Swift Proved To Be A Good Luck Charm For The Kansas City Chiefs
Taylor Swift’s romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has brought two fandoms together, as Swifties got a taste of NFL action for the first time in their lives and became fans of the Chiefs.
After a private New York hangout over the summer of 2023, Swift made their budding relationship public by attending a Chiefs game in September when they faced off against the Chicago Bears.
They won that game easily.
Overall, Taylor Swift cheered on Kelce and the team at 13 of their 21 games last season.
Her first appearance began with Kansas City’s 41-10 home win against the Chicago Bears in Week 3, and her final appearance came at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, where the Chiefs captured their third Super Bowl in four years in a 15-6 overtime win against the San Francisco 49ers.
In total, Taylor Swift proved to be a good luck charm as the Chiefs went 10-3 in games she attended. They were 3-2 in games she missed.
