Fans react to the heated interaction following the thrilling LSU vs. Iowa Elite Eight matchup
Caitlin Clark and Kim Mulkey’s tense postgame interaction goes viralLAPRESSE
In the world of sports, rivalries often create the kind of drama you can’t script. Former Iowa Hawkeye and current Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark and LSU coach Kim Mulkey gave us just that with their back-to-back iconic NCAAgames over the past two years.
The saga began in the 2023 NCAA National Championship game, where Angel Reese and Clark became inextricably linked. In the final moments before securing the championship, Reese’s taunting of Clark was seen by millions. It was the kind of moment that made highlight reels and left fans divided.

Fast forward to the 2024 Elite Eight, and the plot thickened. Clark, with a vengeance hotter than a summer sidewalk, dropped a cool 41 points to not only end LSU’s season but also put a full stop to Reese’s college career. The win was sweet, but what happened next was pure sports theater.
Social Media erupts over an old Coach Mulkey’s postgame interaction with Clark
In the aftermath of the game, an intense exchange between Clark and Mulkey was captured and has recently resurfaced on social media, turning heads and raising eyebrows. The X post by user @wafflesreese shows Mulkey grabbing Clark’s neck during the postgame handshake, leaning in close to say something. The caption reads, “I find myself randomly thinking about this moment, like why did Kim grab Caitlin’s neck like that?“

In less than 12 hours, the post racked up 50,000 views. Fans had a field day with it. One quipped, “Had to let her know! ‘I woulda cooked you back in the day Caitlin’ – Coach Mulkey.” Another added, “She said I’m so glad you’re leaving lol.“
Mulkey might not have to worry about facing Clark on the court again, but this rivalry has carved itself a permanent place in NCAA lore. For Clark, this is just the beginning of what promises to be an electrifying career. For Mulkey, it’s a reminder of the fierce competition and unforgettable moments that make college basketball so compelling.
