Serena Williams took a shot at Harrison Butker during Thursday night’s ESPY Awards.

The tennis icon was the talk of the ceremony after what many consider to be a witty remark, having taken to the stage at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles alongside her sister Venus.

She elicited laughter from the audience after taking a jab at the Kansas City Chiefs kicker over his recent comments about women in the workplace.

Venus and Serena took to the stage with Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson, where they spoke about women’s sports.

“So, go ahead and enjoy women’s sports like you would any other sports, because they are sports,” Venus said.

Serena took the opportunity to take a swipe at Butker.

“Except you, Harrison Butker,” she quipped. “We don’t need you.”

Harrison Butker Has Refused To Walk Back His Comments

The Chiefs kicker rubbed plenty of women the wrong way with a speech given during a commencement ceremony at Benedictine College earlier this year.

While many sided with him, Butker received considerable flak for encouraging women to embrace their roles as homemakers, suggesting it was their highest calling.

He refused to back down, however.

“If it wasn’t clear that the timeless Catholic values are hated by many, it is now,” he said after shaking the nation up with his initial speech. “Over the past few days, my beliefs, or what people think I believe, have been the focus of countless discussions around the globe.”

“In my seven years in the NFL, I’ve become familiar with positive and negative comments. But the majority of them revolve around my performance on the field. But, as to be expected, the more I’ve talked about what I value most, my Catholic faith, the more polarizing I’ve become. It’s a decision I’ve consciously made, and one I do not regret at all.”

The Chiefs didn’t pay any attention to the people asking for the player to be cut, although he could have a reduced role next season as the team isn’t so keen on him getting tackled.

Harrison Butker Is Being Hailed A “Hero” For Helping Chiefs’ Teammate Who Suffered Cardiac Arrest At Practice

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is being hailed a “hero” for coming to the aid of teammate BJ Thompson during a serious medical scare at practice on Thursday.

The 25-year-old BJ Thompson suffered cardiac arrest and a seizure during team practice. He was taken to the hospital and listed in stable condition, and agent Chris Turnage stated that he’s “awake and responsive” today, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. And Harrison Butker is credited with providing the necessary help for his teammate right away.

Speaking to reporters, Chiefs head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder stated that Butker was the one who quickly alerted team trainers to come and provide medical attention to the second-year defensive end:

Burkholder stated there is no diagnosis yet on the health matter, but he’s “coming along quite well” and “heading into the absolute right direction.”

Fans are crediting Harrison Butker for being a hero and playing a significant role in helping Thompson quickly receive medical treatment:

Harrison Butker made headlines last month when he made homophobic, antisemitic, misogynistic and sexist comments during his commencement speech at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas.

Fans called for the Chiefs to release Butker, who later stated that he stood by his comments and refused to apologize. Teammate Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid defended Butker, with the former saying he’s a “good person, though he didn’t agree with some of the things that were said.

Harrison Butker Enters Eighth Season With Chiefs

The soon-to-be 29-year-old Harrison Butker is about to enter his eighth season with the Kansas City Chiefs. A former 2017 seventh-round pick of the Carolina Panthers, Butker has helped the Chiefs to three Super Bowl championships over the last five seasons.

Butker and the Chiefs will try to start off the 2024 season on a high note when they welcome reigning MVP Lamar Jackson and his Baltimore Ravens to Arrowhead Stadium on Sept. 5.
