Kansas City Chiefs rookie Xavier Worthy is quickly making a name for himself, not only on the field but also off it.
As the Chiefs chase a historic three-peat this season, Worthy shared how his bond with his teammates extends beyond football, and how he’s giving back to the community through his partnership with DICK’S Sporting Goods.
In his rookie year, Worthy is already forming close relationships with his teammates, especially through their group chat, which has become a way for the team to stay connected during their off days.
“We all have a group chat, we get on the game, be chill. We just be chilling, really,” he says of his connection with the team.
“And we in the facility cracking jokes. It’s a fun environment.
“I can’t even say that group chat name,” he added while laughing.
While Worthy is keeping the group chat’s name under wraps, he emphasizes how important this camaraderie is to the team’s success. Playing alongside seasoned stars like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce has been an invaluable learning experience.
“They’re so calm through everything, and they taught me a lot of poise,” Worthy continued.
“Just have poise and be comfortable with what you trained for.”
Worthy is eager to learn from veteran players
For Worthy, the opportunity to learn from Mahomes and Kelce is one of the highlights of his rookie season.
“They’re just really good with everything, all the situations,” he explained.
“They taught me a lot of poise. Everything you trained for is going to come in the game and it’s going to be an opportunity.”
Their ability to remain calm under pressure has been especially valuable, and Worthy is taking notes on how to handle high-stakes moments as the Chiefs strive for another championship.
Off the field, Worthy is committed to giving back to the Kansas City community, thanks to his partnership with DICK’S Sporting Goods.
Through the Holiday Shopping Sprint, Kansas City area athletes had the chance to share how winning a home delivery from Worthy would make their holidays brighter. The winners-Tanisha and her son AJ, as well as Molly from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City-were each given $2,500 at DICK’S to pick out their dream holiday gifts. Worthy then personally shopped for and delivered the items to their homes.
