Beloved Pro Wrestler and Former Champion Dies at 63

According to a saddening statement from his family that was released to social media, former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) wrestler and champion Sid “Vicious” Eudy, died at the age of 63 after attempting to fight off cancer for a few long years. It appears to have been the long-running cancer from which he died.

It was the son of Mr. Eudy, Gunnar Eudy, who released a statement on his passing, posting it to his personal Facebook account. Gunnar Eudy began the statement by saying, “In Memory of My Father, Sid Eudy.” Continuing, he said, “Dear friends and family, I am deeply saddened to share that my father, Sid Eudy, has passed away after battling cancer for several years. He was a man of strength, kindness, and love, and his presence will be greatly missed.”

Gunnar Eudy then added that the family appreciates the prayers and thoughts of all those out there who see the message and that they will soon put together details for a memorial service. He said, “We appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we grieve this loss. Details for a memorial service will be shared soon.” Concluding, he added, “Thank you for your support. Sincerely, Gunnar Eudy.”

Commenters on Gunnar Eudy’s post left many messages of prayers and support, saying that they would be thinking about and praying for his recently departed and much beloved father. One, for example, said, “So sad to hear that. I’m in shock. I grew up watching the hero Sid. I am truly sorry for your loss. God rest his soul my friend. My prayers are with him now.”

The WWE released a statement on Mr. Eudy’s passing as well. That statement began by saying, “WWE is saddened to learn that Sid Eudy has passed away. A two-time WWE Champion, Sid was one of the most imposing and terrifying competitors of his generation with a natural charisma that immediately connected with the WWE Universe. Standing at 6’9, Sid gained notoriety in 1989 when he signed with WCW and wrestled with and against some of the biggest names in the industry, including The Steiner Brothers, The Road Warriors and The Four Horseman.”

Continuing, the WWE described the beginning of Mr. Eudy’s explosive career, saying, “Debuting as Sid Justice in WWE, he served as the Special Guest Referee at SummerSlam 1991, where WWE Champion Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior teamed up against The Triangle of Terror in a 3-on-2 Handicap Match. That very same night, Sid saved Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth from an attack at the evil hands of Jake Roberts and The Undertaker at the couple’s newlywed reception.”

The WWE statement then described how Mr. Eudy, incredibly, returned to the WWE and became a champion, saying, “After a few years away from WWE, Sid made his triumphant return as “Sycho Sid,” where he allied himself with Shawn Michaels and was in his corner at WrestleMania XI when The Heartbreak Kid challenged Diesel for the WWE Title. That night would begin an iconic rivalry between the two with Sid winning the WWE Championship from The Showstopper at Survivor Series in 1996 and joined the hallowed ranks of champions. After losing the title back to Michaels, Sid became a two-time champion by defeating Bret Hart on the Feb. 17, 1997 edition of Raw.”

Concluding, the WWE’s statement on Mr. Eudy’s passing said, “Known as “The Master and Ruler of the World”, Sid’s reputation as one of the toughest and most thrilling Superstars cemented his legacy in WWE, and his influence can still be seen in wrestling rings around the world. WWE extends its condolences to Eudy’s family, friends and fans.”
